Magnesia Tube
Magnesium oxide ceramic (MgO, Magnesia) tube is a ceramic with magnesium oxide as the main component, belonging to the cubic crystal system and sodium chloride structure. The main crystal phase of magnesium oxide ceramic is magnesium oxide, with a theoretical density of 3.85g/cm, a melting point of 2800℃, and a Mohs hardness of 5-6. Magnesium oxide is a weakly alkaline substance and has a strong corrosion resistance to alkaline metal solutions. The ion packing density in the magnesium oxide lattice is dense, the ion arrangement is highly symmetrical, and the lattice defects are few, making it difficult to sinter. Therefore, in the preparation process of magnesium oxide ceramics, to reduce the sintering temperature, a certain amount of sintering aids needs to be added. Generally, mixed rare earth metal oxides (RxOY), TiO2, ZrO2, and SiO2 are used as sintering aids. The high-temperature stability and corrosion resistance of magnesium oxide ceramics are better than those of alumina ceramics and can be used in a strong alkali metal corrosive environment.

Main characteristics of magnesium oxide:
Properties
-The melting point of magnesium oxide is as high as 2800℃, and it has strong corrosion resistance to metals and slag.
-Magnesium oxide does not react chemically when in contact with many metals. In an inert atmosphere, even at a temperature of up to 1800℃, magnesium oxide does not react with metals such as nickel, molybdenum, and niobium; under a vacuum of 0.1-0.5mmHg, the reaction temperature between magnesium oxide and carbon is 1800℃, and the reaction temperature between magnesium oxide and nickel is 2000℃
Applications of Magnesia Ceramic Tube
Magnesium oxide ceramics have a theoretical operating temperature of up to 2200-2300℃ and can be used for a long time at 1600℃~1800℃. Its high-temperature stability and corrosion resistance are better than those of alumina ceramics, and it does not react with Fe, Ni, U, Th, Zn, Al, Mo, Mg, Cu, Pt, etc., so its application range may include: crucibles or other refractory parts under corrosive conditions in smelting industries such as steel and glass.
Magnesium oxide ceramics can be used as crucibles for smelting metals, and are also suitable for smelting high-purity uranium and thorium in the atomic energy industry; they can also be used as thermocouple protection sleeves. Using its ability to allow electromagnetic waves to pass through, it can be used as a radar cover and infrared radiation projection window material, and as a crucible for smelting metals and alloys, such as nickel alloys, radioactive metal uranium, thorium alloys, iron and its alloys. It is the raw material for piezoelectric and superconducting materials and is pollution-free and resistant to lead corrosion. It can also be used as a ceramic sintering carrier, especially for the sintering protection of ceramic products such as β-Al2O3 that contain corrosive and volatile substances at high temperatures.
